Brooks Bands, Week of Feb. 28th - Mar. 4th

Pasta Night was a huge success this past weekend. Thank you students for a wonderful evening of music making and thank you families for your support for our kids and the music programs at Brooks. The whole event from the small ensembles, the band concert and the jazz ensemble performance was great!!!

Thank you to our parent volunteers and to Nancy Gonzalez for donating all of those Mardi Gras beads for our jazz ensemble performance! Kids make sure you wear them for Fat Tuesday, Mar. 8th at school. The jazz ensemble will be greeting our students at the beginning of the school day with some New Orleans music!

Practice Records: Week 14 is due on Monday/Tuesday (depending when your class meets according to the ISAT schedule.

2nd Trimester Outside Concert Summaries: are due no later than Tuesday, Mar. 1st If students need a copy of the form there is a link on the upper right hand side of the band blog to print one off.

Late assignments: must be turned in no later than Thursday, Mar. 3rd

Brooks Bands, Week of Feb. 22nd - 26th

BRAVO! PASTA NIGHT & MUSIC SHOWCASE, SAT. FEB 26TH

Symphonic Band students that are participating in small ensembles for the 5:00 p.m. dinner seating will need to meet Mr. Barnard and Mr. Danridge at the end of the 1st Floor, C Wing at 4:30 p.m.

The Band Showcase will feature our 6th grade bands, Concert Band and Symphonic Band in the auditorium. We are encouraging all band members and their families to stay for the band showcase to help support our students. The report times for these ensembles will be the following:

6th Grade Bands: 5:30 p.m. D110
Concert Band: 5:45 p.m. D105
Symphonic Band: 6:00 p.m. C Wing Hallway

Students need to leave valuables with a family member (i.e. cell phones, electronic devices, purses, etc.). Only coats and instrument cases should be left in the warm up areas.

After the Symphonic Band performance, all jazz ensemble members will need to meet at the end of the 1st Floor C Wing no later than 7:00 p.m. for our performance in the Commons at 7:15 p.m.

Concert Attire:
Boys: White button down dress shirt, black solid necktie, black dress pants, black dress shoes.
Girls: White blouse top w/sleeves, black dress pants or black skirt that is knee length, black dress shoes.

Jazz Ensemble members will discuss if we will be changing into our Brooks Jazz T-Shirts.

BAND SECTIONALS THIS WEEK:
Only Symphonic Band students that are working on small ensemble material will be coming in for sectionals this week. The following is the schedule for the week.

Tues:
1st per: Saxophone Quintet (It Don't Mean A Thing)
2nd per: Clarinet Trio (Rameau's Menuet)
7th per: Clarinet Quartet (Sicilienne)

Wednesday:
1st per: Woodwind Quintet (March from Cossi fan tutte)
2nd per: Woodwind Trio (Trio in F/Waltz in B minor)
7th per: Brass Quintet (Happy Tune)

Thursday:
No Sectionals due to assembly schedule

Friday:
2nd period: Percussion Ensemble (Kan-Slam)
7th period: Trumpet Quintet (Prelude L'Arlesienne)

If any of these ensembles want to come in for extra help, Mr. Barnard can be available 6th period (during 8th grade lunch).

Brooks Bands, Week of Feb. 14th-18th

PASTA NIGHT, Sat. Feb. 26th: PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers: Mr. Barnard is looking for parents to help supervise our 6th grade band for the Band Showcase. We will need parent volunteers available at 5:30 p.m. to approximatley 6:30 p.m. to help supervise before the performance and make sure that instruments are packed up and put away after the performance. You will still be able to hear your child perform their portion of the concert. If you are able to help with supervision please email Mr. Barnard at jbarnard@op97.org.

Also, the BRAVO advisory board will need help with volunteers with the Pasta Dinner fundraiser. If you would like to volunteer please contact our BRAVO Secretrary, Daphanee Lewis, at dlewis@op97.org

Families, do not forget to make reservations for the Pasta Dinner fundraiser for the Annual BRAVO Pasta Night and Music Showcase. All band families that would like to participate should make reservations for either the 5:00 p.m. or 7:15 p.m. seatings since the Band Showcase is at 6:00 p.m. The 5:00 p.m. seating will feature small ensembles from our Symphonic Band and the 7:15 p.m. seating will feature our Jazz Ensemble. To make reservations online click on the link on the upper right side of the band blog. All dinner reservations must be made in advance.

Music Theory:
6th Graders: In preparation for our upcoming performance, Music Theory will be postponed until after Feb. 26th. Students should complete and turn in any late work for 1/2 credit.

7th/8th Graders: Wed. will finish up the Ken Burns JAZZ: Bebop and complete activity worksheet and turn in at the end of class. Students will also have a listening activity worksheet due during the class period.

Brooks Bands, Week of 2/7-2/11

PASTA NIGHT, Sat. Feb. 26th: PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

PERFORMANCE SKILLS TESTING:
6th Graders will be performing the following major scales in Concert Pitch for memory (due the week of Feb. 28th- Mar. 4th): Bb, Eb, F, Ab, C and perform Eb Chromatic Scale not for memory. These scales may be found in the Standards of Excellence Bk 2, pages 42-43.

7th/8th Graders will be performing all 12 major scales through the Circle of 4ths (due the week of Feb. 28th - Mar. 4th).
